I did a homestay in Christchurch, New Zealand for 3 weeks. It was a very comfortable place to live and I felt like I wanted to stay there longer. The atmosphere in the city was completely different from that of Japan, and every day was fresh and new. A little further away from the city, there was a rich natural environment with many sheep, cows, and horses. It was a fulfilling 3 weeks, taking classes at school in the mornings and going to activities and places of my choice in the afternoons. Another of my memories is that I met a wonderful host mother.

As for English, there were many things I could not understand because of a slight accent and some Maori words. By learning the differences in pronunciation, I gradually became able to understand it.

During these three weeks, I was able to experience not only English, but also the actual culture. It was a valuable experience for me to commute from my host family’s house to school by bus. Although it was a short period of time, I will continue to cherish the connections I made with my new host mother and friends.
